Overall, please, don't go here. Don't be fooled, it's not 4 stars. It's 2 at best. There are better options in town.

The views are terrific, and the reception staff really do a great job of informing you of everything you need to know about Baddeck, and Cape Breton.

If this were truly an above-average property, they might at least leave some water-bottles in the room, so you can at least drink during a water quality issue.

The shower floor was a bit squishy, which we thought was intentional. We realized that it likely isn't, and that maintenance should get in there to assess it!

We recommend giving the Silver Dart a shot!

The decor is dated, though the tub looked like it was recently fitted with a new one, so that was a plus. The carpet was a bit sticky and matted so I'd recommend bringing house slippers or wear socks inside. The buffet breakfast for $16 was just ok but very convenient if you're wanting to get a start to the day.

Rooms are either chalet style or standard road side motel. As far as I could tell, all rooms have a good view of the lake. It's about a mile walk into the town proper.

The Dart is a bit dated, and that's part of its charm.

Last time I checked, 4-star hotels are quite above-average on quality. Well, this place is basically a drive-up motel. You are given a key, and then you find a little building in the back where you "drive-up" and it feels so much like a 2-star motel.

On a positive note, the view is quite pretty from this motel's location. When taking refuge outside from the room's smell (on a cracked plastic chair), the sailboats on the lake make for a relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant has a stunning view, and looks quite new and updated.

Upon reading glowing reviews on the internet and seeing the 4-star rating, I was sure this would be a great place to stay in Baddeck. Wrong!

The breakfast is great, and our waitress, Connie, was an absolute gem for the time that we were there.

Pool was closed (for the water-advisory). There were free rental-bikes, which are a nice perk at most hotels, but these ones were death-machines. I tried to ride one on flat ground, and the wheel frame was warped so much it was like riding a bucking bronco. Helmets were broken too.

Then, entering the room! It smelled rather putrid inside, and the first thing we saw was a large sign saying "Boil-Water Warning!" It's not their fault the water system is broken, but there is no stove in the room to boil water with! How am I supposed to safely drink, in this so-called "4-star" hotel?

Had a pleasant stay at the Silver Dart Lodge. Stayed two nights in the West building, which has seen better days. The entrance door was sticky and the floor squeaked, but the room was clean and comfortable. The vanity lights also took turns flickering on and off. The pool was warm and welcome after a long day exploring the Cabot Trail and the playground was good for young kids. Ate at the McCurdy restaurant both nights and enjoyed our meals. Sat on the patio and had a lovely view over the lake. The food was good and not overpriced and the staff was accommodating and friendly. We will stay again if we find ourselves in the area.

The 1960s style heating system had a good dozen dead bugs on it, making me wonder if they ever clean these rooms. I found a large smelly mass behind the writing-desk, and I'm not sure I want to know what it is.
